    - Student Council Elections will be held following the Campaign Rally - before or after Mass (time depending). Election Results will be announced at 1:00 p.m.
    - Weekly School Mass at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church. All parents are welcome to attend.

Upcoming Events

  • First Quarter Progress Reports will be sent home on September 1.
  • There will be no classes on Monday, September 4 in observance of Labor Day.
  • The annual Dinner Dance Fundraiser will be held on Saturday, September 9 in the Sacred Heart Church parking lot. More information will be available soon.
  • There will be no classes on Tuesday, September 12 due to a Teacher In-service.

Join the Girls Volleyball Team!

Dear Students & Parents,

All 4th through 8th Grade girls are invited to join the Sacred Heart Catholic School Girls Volleyball team. Beginning this school year, athletic team participation is mandatory on a per semester basis for all 4th through 8th graders, and will count as part of their Physical Education grade.

Volleyball Practice will be held from:

  • 3:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday
  • 12:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday

Players should wear knee-pads and suitable clothing or their P.E. uniforms for practice.

Sacred Heart Catholic School plays in the River Canyon League with Lourdes Catholic School, Little Red, Patagonia, and Elgin. Additional sports throughout the year include Boys and Girls Basketball, Soccer, Softball, and Junior Olympics.

The Sacred Heart Catholic School Volleyball team won the River Canyon League Championships in 2014 & 2015.

More information and the Volleyball practice start date will be available soon. Please contact the office, Mrs. Soto or Mrs. Valdez-Banda, or fill out and return the Volleyball information form that was sent home.

NWEA-MAP Fall Testing Session Begins

Sacred Heart Catholic School administers the NWEA Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) assessment to all K-8th students three times a year (Fall, Winter, & Spring). The Fall NWEA-MAP testing session begins on Monday, August 14 through Friday, September 22, 2017.

This Week at Sacred Heart Catholic School (August 7-11, 2017)

In addition to the regular news blog postings, "This Week At Sacred Heart Catholic School" posts are intended to give a quick run down of important events and highlight announcements and key information for parents, students, faculty and staff on a (mostly) weekly basis.

School Begins on August 7

The first day of every new school year is traditionally "Orientation Day" which all students and parents attend. The day begins at 8:00 a.m. with an assembly in Sheridan Hall. Students and their parents will then meet their teachers and visit their classrooms where they will be introduced to specific classroom policies and procedures and will receive their textbooks. Student's and parents may leave at the teacher's discretion once all school and classroom activities are complete. Classes will begin in full on Tuesday, August 8.

Sacred Heart Catholic School Welcomes New Middle School Teachers, Reshuffles Teaching Positions, & Says Farewell to a Few Departing Teachers

Our former Kindergarten teacher Ms. Yemil Andrade has returned and taken the 8th grade position. Ms. Andrade will be in charge of Theology and Mathematics for 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. Ms. Cynthia Smith-Capin has joined Sacred Heart Catholic School and taken the 6th grade position. She will be in charge of Science and English Language Arts for 6th, 7th, and 8th grades.

Ms. Frances Colunga, our current Middle School Chair, will move up to 7th grade. Ms. Colunga will continue to teach 6th, 7th, and 8th grade History and Literature and will teach a new Writing class in conjunction with her Literature curriculum. Mr. Arturo Garino, our Art Teacher and former Nogales Mayor, will expand his middle school duties this year. Mr. Garino has been named Middle School Co-Chair alongside Ms. Colunga.

Sacred Heart Catholic School also bids a fond bittersweet farewell to Ms. Leslie Rojas (Reading Intervention) who has moved on to pursue personal religious opportunities, as well as Ms. Dulce Dueñas (Preschool) and Mr. John K. Kandikatla (8th Grade & Music) who have relocated to other schools. Mrs. Margarita Valenzuela has taken over in Preschool in the wake of Ms. Dueñas's departure.

Faculty Spotlight: Sacred Heart Catholic School Welcomes New Middle School Teachers

Sacred Heart Catholic School is pleased to welcome two new highly qualified middle school teachers to our teaching staff.

Our former Kindergarten teacher Ms. Yemil Andrade has returned and taken the 8th grade position. She will be in charge of Theology and Mathematics for 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. Ms. Andrade is a highly qualified certified teacher with a B.A. in Education and a Minor is Spanish from the University of Arizona. She was Sacred Heart Catholic School's 2014-2015 Teacher of the Year. She received the Rodel Student Teacher Award, the Wildcat Excellence Award, and the Fred and Ann Boice Award. She is a member of the Phi Eta Sigma Honorary Society and the National Society of Leadership and Success.

Ms. Cynthia Smith-Capin has taken the 6th grade position. She will be in charge of Science and English Language Arts for 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. Ms. Smith-Capin is highly qualified certified teacher with a B.A. in Education from Prescott College. Ms. Smith-Capin has 20 years of teaching experience in the Santa Cruz County school districts. She was the 2005-2006 Francisco Vazquez de Coronado Elementary School Teacher of the Year. Ms. Smith-Capin is a member of the National Educators Association and the Nogales, AZ chapter of Reading Is Fundamental (RIF).
