Sacred Heart Catholic School's Challenge Program is for Elementary (3rd - 5th grade) and Middle School (6th - 8th grade) students who score in the 90th percentile or higher on the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT), a state-approved measure of giftedness. The test is administered annually to all 3rd, 5th, and 7th grade students. Challenge is a biweekly pull-out program; students spend Wednesday mornings, every two weeks, working with similarly gifted peers on a variety of projects.

A hallmark of the Challenge Program is the annual Middle School Oratorical Contest, which is open to all middle school students but is mandatory for all Middle School Challenge students. Contest participants are guided through the writing process, familiarized with different aspects of writing for public speaking, and present a 4-minute speech on a previously selected theme. The Middle School Oratorical Contest is aimed at equipping students with the knowledge and experience of public speaking before entering high school.
